Let's Write about It: Journaling as a Recreational Therapy Intervention
Session Description/Research Abstract
Journaling is an activity that is low cost, can be done anywhere by anyone at anytime. This session will specifically talk about journaling activities for mental health, older adults, students in higher education, and for anyone in daily life. The benefits and outcomes will be discussed, techniques and journaling ideas will be presented, and participants will learn to make "safe" journals for mental health settings.

Biographical Information
Sarah is the Placement Coordinator and Instructor in the Recreational Therapy program at GVSU in Grand Rapids, MI. Sarah has experience in mental health, substance use, and youth at risk. Sarah has always valued the ability to use her art and creativity in developing new interventions for clients in behavioral health settings and has seen the benefit of using a journaling project with her students in the RT program at GVSU.
