Session Abstract

There are several reasons why your library’s WorldCat holdings might be out of sync with your local holdings. The impact of these inaccuracies can have broader implications for users and researchers at your institution and beyond. For these reasons, OCLC has offered a for-fee reclamation service for years now. Unfortunately, the fee can be a hindrance to many. While OCLC now offers a simpler no-cost option, it does not include many of the aspects of the for-fee service that libraries often need when performing this work. Based on work done by others, the University of Denver Libraries set out to perform a homemade "OCLC" reclamation project using APIs to automate much of the work. The procedures used, the advantages, and the disadvantages of this project will be outlined to give other Alma institutions an option when considering this type of project.

Learning Outcome #1

At the end of this session, participants will be able to describe the basic procedures for performing a reclamation project.

Learning Outcome #2

At the end of this session, participants will be able to describe what APIs are needed to carry out a reclamation project.
