Thinking Inside the Box: Maps in Shared Boxes as Boundwiths
Session Abstract
Many of the individually cataloged maps in the George Washington University Special Collections Research Center are stored offsite in the WRLC Shared Collections Storage Facility. They are often stored together in shared boxes to protect the maps and maximize shelf space use. This created a laborious workflow for Special Collections every time a patron requested a map. Using Alma’s features for boundwiths, the Cataloging Department, working with individuals from Special Collections, was able to identify problems and needs to create a more efficient workflow for staff and display for users.
