Transitioning from SharePoint to Alma Digital in a Corporate Environment
Session Abstract
In 2019, ExxonMobil adopted Alma and Primo VE as our corporate strategic solution for finding published unstructured data -- journals, books, subscription databases, articles, conference proceedings, etc. In this presentation, we will share one of the projects we worked on to migrate a collection of enterprise-licensed consultant studies from its existing home in a SharePoint library to Alma Digital, making this published, external information more findable and accessible to our users. We converted an Excel file created from the SharePoint metadata to the MARC format using MARCedit and used the S3 Browser to load the files to Alma Digital. We created templates and normalization processes in the MetaData Editor to enable the cataloging of new additions to the collection by non-expert catalogers. We also created a collection view in Primo VE.

Participants will be able to move SharePoint metadata into Excel and convert it to MARC using MARCEdit.

Participants will understand how to use custom cataloging templates and normalization processes to simplify original cataloging for non-expert catalogers.
