Navigating in the Dark: Systems Afloat at Maritime College
Session Abstract
Due to institutional challenges at SUNY Maritime College, the systems and electronic resources librarian position was unfilled from 2018 to 2022. During that time, the library underwent migration to Alma/Primo VE, saw staff turnover, a global pandemic, and a host of other hurdles. In the summer of 2022, a new Discovery and Electronic Resources Librarian was hired. In this position, the librarian had to resurrect old documentation, piece together issues, and troubleshoot broken configurations. This session will look at problem-solving done by this librarian as a case study in the dos and don'ts of succession planning for library technology systems.
