Implementing Alma-D: A New Journey to Manage Digital Assets in Alma
Session Abstract
The University of Texas at Dallas received a grant to convert oral history audio cassettes to online audio streaming files. Our library owns multiple systems that could manage digital assets, including DSpace, ArchivesSpace, and Alma-D. We started the project by addressing these questions: What file format are these cassettes being converted to? Which system do we want to use to ingest those files? What metadata standard should we adopt?, and Where do we store the original files for preservation purposes? This presentation will cover our decision-making workflow to select the most suitable systems for storing the files, displaying the online audio streaming files, mapping and converting the metadata for the streaming files, and storing the original medium for long-term preservation purposes. Finally, we will discuss how we integrated multiple systems to better manage, centralize and retrieve our digital assets.
