Session Abstract

As cataloging staff members are called to perform work once done by librarians, they may be coming to the work without a strong background in cataloging issues. In addition to procedures and workflows, staff training may include topics such as Linked Data and the critical cataloging movement. These thoughts inspired a series of 30-minute talks in the UNH library called "Why should I care about ..." When talking about large issues it is critical to tie them back to local impact, which can be done by showing the impact within the Alma environment. This presentation uses linked data and DEI cataloging as examples to demonstrate how broad topics can (and should) be localized by discussing content in the local Alma/Primo environment.
