E3a Cryptocurrency Investing: Examining the "Who" and the "Why"
Short Description
This study aims to investigate the perspective of the consumer and examines the "who" and "why" of cryptocurrency investing using two waves of the NFCS's Investor Survey in 2018 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. These two waves allow us to examine in greater detail how the surge in online investing during the COVID-19 pandemic among individuals is related to cryptocurrency investing (Feyen et al, 2022). We use descriptive statistics to identify the "who" of cryptocurrency investing in a national sample in 2018 pre-COVID and 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. We use binary logistics regression to predict cryptocurrency investing and control for socio-demographic sample characteristics for the 2018 and 2021 survey waves. We use subsample regressions for male and female investors.
