Discovery of and access to library materials happen everywhere at network level[i]. The latest Ithaka S+R survey finds that only 14 percent of faculty members begin their literature search from library website (Blankstein, 2022). Instead, patrons’ discovery journey happens in places such as publisher and aggregator’s website and Google Scholar. Consequently, their access to scholarly content is complicated by factors related to authentication, entitlement, metadata quality, and privacy in the discover-to-delivery ecosystem.

In this presentation, we will describe strategies that integrate Primo discovery service and access broker browser extension to facilitate patron’s access to library resources at University of Southern California Libraries. We will further review the potential of federated identity solutions, including SeamlessAccess, GetFTR, and IP Registry, to reduce friction on e-resource access.
