This session reviews the methods that the State University of New York has used to create custom links for resources not included in the Alma Community Zone. These links offer access to licensed content, highlight local services, and provide alternative access when vendor links fail in Primo VE. The session will cover how to identify and repurpose OpenURL fields, how to design and implement dynamic URLS for electronic collections, and how to create General Electronic Services links. The presenters will review the pros and cons of using Get It links vs. General Electronic Service links for custom linking. Specific use cases will include using newspaper site license dynamic URLs to resolve Primo VE indexing problems, integrating Springshare LibWizard forms into Primo VE for eBook Interlibrary Loan, and creating custom GESes to work around incoming and outgoing link behavior limitations.
At the end of the session, participants will be able to identify OpenURL fields in Primo VE metadata, set up dynamic URLs in Alma services, and design custom linking for non-traditional GESes.
