Dynamic Short-Term Loan Collections in Alma Using Leganto Reading Lists
Presentation Topic Description
Trent University participates in an Alma Fulfillment Network (branded "Omni") for resource sharing. The network adopted a 120-day loan period for resource sharing, and so there were three concerns about physical titles on reading lists: 1) loans to our partner libraries would make titles unavailable to our students, 2) loans to our own students would make titles unavailable to their peers, and 3) requests from our students for these titles would monopolize these titles within the Omni network. While we still place items on physical reserve when requested, there is also a desire to minimize our physical reserves collection. We decided to use a short-term loan strategy, so that requests for reading list titles would stay within the institution and so that titles would still be shelved in the general collection. Using citation data retrieved from Analytics and API calls, we are dynamically adding and removing titles in the short-term loan collection.
