From Homegrown to Off the Shelf
Session Abstract
Brown University Library started to shift from its homegrown course reserve system (OCRA) to Leganto around the middle of 2022. Since Leganto successfully going live in January 2023, this session will describe the journey the implementation team experienced. This presentation will highlight multiple challenges the team faced, including learning OCRA and Leganto at the same time due to staff transitions. It will also describe the key tasks, including configuring Canvas and Leganto to support two systems’ talks; extracting reading lists from OCRA and mapping them properly to Leganato; collaborating with across-campus departments to streamline data transfer; developing the method for instructors to make digitization and purchase requests; and establishing alternative ways of working with course reserves in multiple formats (e.g., videos). Lastly, this session will share the lessons the team has learned, provide a brief comparison between OCRA and Leganto, and discuss the future work ahead of the team.
