108 Retirement Savings Gaps: The Role of Children and Marital Arrangements

mercredi 17 mai 2023 à 08:00–08:50 PDT
Room 5 Posters
Short Description

The goal of this research is to estimate the association that marital status, gender, children, and child support and alimony arrangements have on retirement savings and retirement savings adequacy. The analysis uses Survey of Consumer Finance data from 2016 and 2019 to capture retirement savings in retirement savings accounts. The main contribution of this study is to expand on the association of retirement savings, marital status, and gender to incorporate children and consider the role that child support and alimony arrangements could have on retirement savings. The aim of this study is to inform families about common retirement savings patterns that impact their consumption ability in retirement ages. Relationships between child support and alimony policies and retirement savings adequacy could be of interest to policymakers who wish to address elder poverty among women.
