Room AV 00.17
Session Abstract

This presentation will explore emerging trends and innovations in library technology, and their potential impact on libraries in the coming years with a specific focus on how those technologies can be leveraged via the Ex Libris ALMA\PRIMO LSP for most positive impact for our students and staff.
We will begin with an overview of the key technological trends currently shaping the library landscape, including cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and open source software, as well as provide examples of what’s being done in those areas within ALMA. We will then examine specific examples of how libraries are leveraging these technologies to improve services, streamline operations, and enhance the patron experience. We will also discuss emerging technologies and innovations that have the potential to transform the library landscape, including blockchain, virtual and augmented reality, and the internet of things with a specific focus on APIs and technologies that can be adapted and utilized via ALMA\PRIMO. Through case studies and examples, we will explore how libraries can prepare for and adapt to these new technologies. We will conclude with a discussion of best practices for implementation including considerations for staff training, vendor partnerships, and long-term planning and investment.
