Social media usage has steadily increased over the last decade among adolescents. Unfortunately, the consequences are also growing and becoming a source of concern in the learning environment. School counselors should become savvy by implementing a SMART Initiative (Social Media Activities Revolving Teens). School counselors can reveal the different social media apps utilized amongst teens, impart strategies through social/emotional planning, and educate stakeholders on the dangers and preventative measures for inappropriate social media behavior.
