This virtual event will run February 1 - 29, 2024 on ATRA's virtual learning platform. Additional sessions may be added so please check back regularly to view the program.

Description

Working with veterans? Let's take a dive into clients who have experienced shell shock in foreign or domestic lands.

Learn about combat veterans, the unique trauma that they experience, and the restorative outcomes of recreational therapies as veterans transition successfully to civilian life. This session will include interventions, discussion of trauma, and the importance of recreational therapy within this population.

Biographical Statement

Hello! My name is Nakkia Graham (Kia). I am a National Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist since 2015. I graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi in May of 2015. I also graduated from Belhaven University with a Master's in Healthcare Administration in 2018. I am a current grad student at Capella University obtaining my Master's in Mental Health Counseling. I have worked in multiple populations including Seniors, Geriatric Psych, Behavioral Health, and specialize in Adolescent, Adult dual diagnosis, and Veteran behavioral health. 

I have found my passion working in Recreational Therapy. I enjoy working in Behavioral health and want to improve quality of life, one activity at a time. My favorite quote is "If Bread is the first necessity of life, Recreation is a close second". This quote embodies the importance of Recreational Therapy and how it can change your life.
