Leveraging Zurich Zentralbibliothek’s Jupyter Notebooks for Metadata Retrieval and Analysis from Alma [Zoom session]
Event part
Developers Day
Abstract
In modern research endeavors and library management, digital tools are essential. The Swiss Library Service Platform (SLSP) houses over 25 million bibliographic records as Alma NZ, yet navigating this vast collection is challenging without proper tools. This abstract proposes using Jupyter Notebooks to quickly access and analyze up to 10,000 Alma records. Through its integration with SLSP's SRU protocol, users can easily extract metadata and export it into structured and integral formats like Excel, CSV, or JSON. Jupyter Notebooks offer robust data analysis, particularly through natural language processing. Visualizations, such as statistical charts, world maps, and word clouds, are exportable as PDF and aid in interpretation. Additionally, Jupyter Notebooks' flexibility allows customization of the codebase. Overall, this showcases a comprehensive approach to fostering data-driven strategies for stakeholders in bibliometric studies and scholarly inquiry.
