Biographical Information
Dr. Heather Porter is a professor in the recreational therapy (RT) program at Temple University, a fellow in the National Academy of Recreational Therapists, and the owner of RecThera. Her area of specialization is inpatient and outpatient physical rehabilitation. She created and organizes the annual RT Evidence-Based Practice Conference at Temple University and created and maintains RT Wise Owls (rtwiseowls.temple.edu) to disseminate RT-related research and evidence-based practice information. She has been teaching RT assessment and documentation for 15+ years and has recently developed an RT assessment and treatment framework that blends evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning, the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) and the Rehab Treatment Specification System (RTSS) to support and facilitate critical thinking in making assessment and treatment decisions.
