Session Summary
Trauma-affected students pose unique challenges to school counselors, especially after COVID-19. Children who have been raised with a history of trauma have learned to prioritize their safety by living in a state of hyperarousal, a subconscious preparedness to defend themselves. We will describe the characteristics of trauma-affected students' behavior in the classroom. We address ways for the school counselor to support these students.
