Session Summary
There is an increased need for mental health support for students, but school staff is seeing a shortage of clinicians. We must re-examine the role of school counselors as mental health professionals who are positioned and accessible to meet students’ mental health needs, because often they are the only individuals with mental health training in school settings. Having school counselors also licensed in mental health treatment, expands capacity to meet mental health needs for students.
