The Georgia Department of Public Health reports from 2019-2021, the total number of opioid-related overdose deaths increased from 853 to 1,718, an increase of 101%. These increases were driven largely by fentanyl. Students and parents must be educated to know the dangers of taking ANY pill.
Dr. McDermott understands these dangers on a personal level, as her own son struggled with addiction, which led to his death by a fentanyl overdose in November of 2023.
