Regarding CEUs, NCTRC has pre-approved all educational sessions. Poster presentations are not eligible for CEUs. For specialty certification designation, please check the pdf version of the program.

Biographical Information

Betsy Kemeny, PhD, CTRS, FDRT, CPG is an Associate Professor at Slippery Rock University in Recreational Therapy and President of the National Academy of Recreational Therapists. Betsy served on the ATRA board from 2014-2022 (President 2020-2021). Betsy is a certified professional gerontologist, a Fellow of Distinction in Recreational Therapy, a member of the International Society for Autism Research, and serves on the HHRF Scientific Board. Her research interests focus on Equine Assisted Services with youth on the autism spectrum and older adults. She also served as a co-investigator with Drs. Hawkins and Porter on the ATRA Delphi and Competencies Studies. Prior to graduate work, she worked full-time for more than 25 years with frail older adults in various settings along the care continuum (adult day, assisted living, skilled nursing, hospice). Currently, she facilitates student service-learning programs at local assisted living and skilled nursing facilities and collaborates with Storm Harbor Equestrian Center for the Adaptive Sports programs for disabled veterans. Since 2012, she has facilitated an after-school program for youth on the autism spectrum called TRAILS at Storm Harbor Equestrian Center, at Slippery Rock University.

Biographical Information

Dr. Marcia Jean Carter, CPRP, CTRS, FDRT, FALS is an Adjunct on-line faculty with the University of St. Francis, Joliet, Il. Eastern Washington University, and SUNY Cortland, NY. Dr. Carter co-authored multiple editions of textbooks including Therapeutic Recreation a Practical Approach, Effective Management in Therapeutic Recreation Service, and Recreation Therapy with Individuals Living in the Community: An Inclusive Approach. She serves as the Editor-in-Chief for the Therapeutic Recreation Journal. Dr. Carter served as an associate editor for the Annual in Therapeutic Recreation, co-chaired the ATRA Higher Education Taskforce, served on ATRA conference committees, and received the ATRA Distinguished Fellow Award. She was instrumental in the creation of NCTRC and served as its first Chair.
