Biographical Information

Ashley Helmi has been a CTRS since 2020 and graduated with an undergraduate degree in Recreation Therapy and a minor in music from Indiana State University. After graduating she moved to Arizona and worked in the field for three years within the adaptive sports, senior living, and mental health settings. Ashley also served on the Arizona State Therapeutic Recreation Association board for 2 years. She has previously presented at a CEU workshop and the Utah Recreation Therapy Association conference. While working in the field, she learned her true passion was teaching future Recreation Therapists as a college professor. She is currently working towards her Master’s degree in Recreation Therapy at the University of Utah. She also is working in the community-based setting while working as a Teaching and Research Assistant and assisting with community outreach events for the U. She has worked with ATRA to assist with the planning of the 2024 Recreation Therapy month activities and is involved in the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) committee to help serve the field.
