CTRS
Blayr is a Recreation Specialist working at a treatment center in Idaho for people with IDD-MH. She has been a CTRS for 5 years and loves all things recreation. Some of her hobbies include hiking, biking, camping, being on a lake or a beach, and having game nights with friends. Blayr found her passion for Therapeutic Recreation at Winona State University in Minnesota. She grew up in Minnesota and her background with RT started in the long-term care setting working with older adults with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Two years ago she moved to Idaho for a change of pace – and scenery – and is now supervising a recreation team and building her program while fiercely advocating for Recreation Therapy. Recently, her facility has been shifting to a new philosophy, posing the question: how can we help people flourish? That’s where positive psychology and PERMA come into play. These core concepts set the framework for how to conduct therapy from a place of positivity and hope, ultimately leading to helping folks find what makes life worth living!
