The Missing Piece: How Context Shapes Holistic Admissions for Students & Universities
Session Description
University applications don’t exist in a vacuum - each student brings a unique context that shapes how US admissions representatives understand their profile. From curriculum differences to grading systems, school type to class size, many factors influence how an application is read. But how well do students and counsellors understand that context?
This session will break down the layers of context admissions representatives consider and explore practical strategies for guiding students in effectively presenting their academic and personal backgrounds. Using real student examples, we’ll examine how different parts of the application can be used to communicate context clearly and meaningfully.
Designed for secondary counsellors, this session will provide tools to help you guide students in understanding their own context and advocating for themselves effectively, along with tips and insights into how and where context can shape admissions outcomes.
