Session Summary

Many students experiencing homelessness remain unidentified due to stigma, fear, and misunderstanding of what qualifies as homelessness, especially when “doubling up.” This session, grounded in student narratives, explores why youth hesitate to disclose their housing status and how school practices can unintentionally reinforce their invisibility. Participants will learn practical strategies to reduce bias, improve identification, and ensure students receive the support they deserve under the McKinney-Vento Act.
