Abstract

As AI-powered search tools and research assistants become standard features in discovery layers and databases, we face a growing challenge: how do we reliably and consistently evaluate these tools to make informed, evidence-based decisions?

Murdoch University Library developed a practical evaluation rubric, adapted from an open educational resource, and deployed it via Microsoft Forms to gather consistent data from both library staff and the university community.

In this session, Erin will provide an update on how we’ve evolved our approach and successfully used it to evaluate several AI search tools, including ExLibris’ Primo Research Assistant and other vendor platforms. Erin has previously shared this tool with Australian and New Zealand colleagues and looks forward to sharing it with IGeLU’s international audience.
