Abstract

The University of Manitoba (UM) and the University of Calgary (UC) recently partnered to build, preserve, and maintain access to a collaborative collection housed within the UC High Density Library (HDL). Because both institutions are not in a consortia, the project team implemented a Primo Collaborative Discovery Network without a Network Zone. This presentation will detail the technical system-to-system integrations required across UM and UC's Primo VE and Alma environments, as well as UC's CaiaSoft system.

Key technical challenges and solutions:

  1. Migrating the UM Alma instance to the Canadian data centre.
  2. Configuring a hybrid "discovery network" to seamlessly manage patron physical item requests and digitization requests.
  3. Integrating UM’s Alma directly with UC’s CaiaSoft for accessioning and remote storage retrieval workflows.
  4. Evaluating complex resource sharing (RS) workflows versus fulfillment network workflows.
