Breaking Boundaries: Integrating Alma, Primo VE, and CaiaSoft for Cross-Institutional Collaborative Collections

Abstract
The University of Manitoba (UM) and the University of Calgary (UC) recently partnered to build, preserve, and maintain access to a collaborative collection housed within the UC High Density Library (HDL). Because both institutions are not in a consortia, the project team implemented a Primo Collaborative Discovery Network without a Network Zone. This presentation will detail the technical system-to-system integrations required across UM and UC's Primo VE and Alma environments, as well as UC's CaiaSoft system.
Key technical challenges and solutions:
- Migrating the UM Alma instance to the Canadian data centre.
- Configuring a hybrid "discovery network" to seamlessly manage patron physical item requests and digitization requests.
- Integrating UM’s Alma directly with UC’s CaiaSoft for accessioning and remote storage retrieval workflows.
- Evaluating complex resource sharing (RS) workflows versus fulfillment network workflows.
