Abstract

The University of Kentucky Libraries was a development partner for Library Open Workflows (LibOW) during the spring 2025 semester. At the same time, harsh winter weather forced several emergency closures that required updates to the Alma calendar that is used to feed our operating hours into LibCal for display on the Libraries' website. When trying to think of a good use case to design a workflow using LibOW, an idea was developed that would combine the need for a good use case with the need to have a better emergency closure workflow. What followed was an exploration to learn about how to use the Alma Configuration APIs to update Alma hours and how to create a workflow to use LibOW to leverage Alma APIs to update Alma hours. This presentation will describe how I turned this idea into reality, including some challenges faced, tools used, decisions made, and a demo of the final product.
