Abstract

Even the most advanced discovery systems fall short if a patron cannot physically locate the item on the shelf. The transition from a digital catalog call number to a physical floor location is a persistent friction point in the library experience. This presentation explores how we bridged this physical-digital divide by building a dynamic, interactive shelf-mapping ecosystem from the ground up.

We will share our journey of transforming static SVG floor plans and complex Excel classification data into a seamless patron service. By embedding a custom Angular component into Primo NDE, we replaced the standard “Locate” feature with an intuitive “Shelf Map” button that instantly highlights the exact shelf. Finally, we will demonstrate our companion management app, showcasing how we empower staff to easily maintain ranges and metadata, ensuring a sustainable navigational solution.
