In 2025, it was decided that the Education and Social Work libraries at the Hebrew University would be merged into the university’s Central Library. These libraries include unique collections such as children’s books in Hebrew, English, and Arabic, textbooks in these languages, and the IMPACT collection, which analyzes educational content in textbooks across the Arab world.
Over the year, a large-scale integration process has been carried out, including identifying overlap between collections and transferring approximately 130,000 books and 1,800 journals. This revealed key technological challenges: weeding (duplicates, circulation history, and electronic availability), inconsistent bibliographic cataloging, automation of normalization processes, and integration of different classification systems.
In this presentation, we present solutions developed to address these challenges, including the use of AI, digital tools, and automation to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
