Abstract

This presentation covers the end-to-end strategy at the University of Queensland Library for transitioning to the Primo Next Discovery Experience User Interface (NDE UI). Our journey began with UX discovery research in 2026, with one-on-one feedback sessions to understand real user behaviours, pain points, and expectations. It continues with a planned beta access period in early 2027, to refine and validate changes before switchover in June 2027. Throughout the project we combine redevelopment of prioritised service-focused local customisations and decide on adjustments to out-of-the-box configurable features, as informed by insights gathered directly from patrons, indirectly through Library staff interactions, and with support of analytics data. The session will share practical reflections and strategies for managing the transition of a core library discovery service with a user-centred focus.
