Over time, an Alma environment accumulates clutter across bibliographic, holdings, and item records; purchase order lines; electronic portfolios; patron requests; calendars; and user accounts. This clutter degrades discovery, distorts reporting, and slows daily workflows. At the City University of New York (CUNY), with 23 campuses sharing a Network Zone and operating individual Institution Zones, regular large-scale cleanup is essential. This session shares the central office's practical approaches to identifying and resolving issues across these record types and configurations. Drawing on real cleanup projects, we will show how we combined Alma advanced searches, jobs, normalization rules, Analytics reports, and APIs with external tools such as Excel and MarcEdit to find problems, measure their impact, and resolve them at scale. We will also discuss common pitfalls and strategies for keeping an Alma environment cleaner over time.
