Starting in 2019, Southern Methodist University Libraries’ digitization unit transitioned from an inadequate digital asset management system to a digital preservation system. After a two-year vetting process, SMU Libraries selected Clarivate’s digital preservation system, Rosetta. The team then began to migrate over 50TB of digitized and born-digital material. Throughout the migration process and the integration of our digitization workflows with Rosetta, we learned a lot about the files we had created over the past decade and the impact of moving from a digital asset management system geared toward corporate environments to one more aligned with digital preservation best practices. This presentation examines how a short-staffed unit quickly built preservation expertise, adapted workflows, and applied lessons learned while using Rosetta to engage more fully with the digital preservation community and address the growing preservation needs of the campus community.
