Abstract

Cal Poly Library is implementing a normalization rule to allow for the Primo display of Art and Architecture Thesaurus terms that are present in records associated with Special Collections & Archives materials. Currently, many of Cal Poly Library’s bibliographic records encode subject headings and genre form terms from the Art and Architecture Thesaurus, a controlled vocabulary developed by the Getty Research Institute. These terms are indexed but do not display in our user-facing interface. Users are therefore not able to see or click on terms in order to use linked entry point searching. This project required conducting research into the presence of the AAT in our broader library collections and isolating where the display rule would enable greater search capacities for users, and then creating a local field norm rule to specify the display change to that location. My presentation will examine the design and implementation of the norm rule and explore future applications.
