Abstract

This presentation examines how Non-Traditional Research Outputs (NTROs) are managed in Esploro, focusing on the gap between structured research systems and the needs of creative practice-based work. It outlines why NTROs are difficult to handle, including mismatched metadata, system limitations, and differences in how researchers describe their work. Drawing on practical experiences and showing how these challenges play out in day-to-day repository work, often requiring manual fixes and flexible approaches for metadata and system workarounds. It concludes with key lessons and practical takeaways, emphasising the need for clear standards, adaptable processes within the system, and realistic expectations when working with NTROs.
