Learning Objectives

By attending this session:
- Participants will have an understanding of how a patron-driven
e-book acquisitions service may be integrated with existing collection
development practices;
- Participants will be given the tools and information to plan for and
implement a patron-driven acquisition eBook service at their own
institution;
- Participants will have an understanding of how book vendors and
e-Book aggregators have partnered with each other and libraries to
provide a demand-driven model for the acquisitions of e-books.

Abstract

The purchase of e-books via a patron-driven
or demand-driven model has become more common in
academic libraries, whether as a pilot project or an ongoing
service.  This program provides an overview of how a demand-driven
acquisitions service can be integrated into a library’s overall
collection development strategy for electronic books.
