Preservation begins with identification: Using Rosetta for managing born-digital business records

Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 4:45 PM–5:30 PM CDT
Crystal Lake
Description

Many, if not all, institutions are faced with a large and ever-growing amount of born-digital records created and arranged in idiosyncratic and non-standard ways. How do we take hold of these records and get them into a system where they can be identified and preserved? This talk will outline our efforts at the Getty Research Institute to deposit born-digital business records into Rosetta in order to determine what we have and to begin preserving it. Our successes and struggles with providing internal access to this material once in the system will also be addressed. This session is relevant to all attendees who have collections of born-digital material, not just Rosetta customers.
