Discovery beyond searching: New discovery enhancements for 2015

Description

Users come to library discovery systems for many different reasons. For example they may be looking for a quick overview of a specific topic, the newest articles in their research area, or material for an undergraduate course assignment or research project. Alternatively they may simply need to gain access to a specific book or article. Recent Ex Libris user studies show that users treat discovery as a learning experience beyond just searching and expect to find items that are outside the parameters of material they already know about—without knowing all the terms necessary to find them by a search query. In this session we will discuss the new discovery features that we are planning to add to Primo in 2015 and 2016 to enhance the user experience, and our considerations for their design. New features include: -New user interface for web and mobile use -Exploration tools for discovery via connections and clustering - Enhanced personalization to tailor result lists to every user’s individual needs
