Keynote - Raúl Gonzalez III: The Book I Wanted to Read as a Kid
Session Abstract
Artist Raúl Gonzalez III (aka Raul the Third), is illustrator of the critically acclaimed graphic novel Lowriders in Space, the first graphic novel for children featuring an all Latino cast, with Spanish phrases liberally sprinkled throughout. Using a combination of storytelling, live drawing, and slide presentation, Gonzalez will highlight the importance of language and drawing as a magical means of communication. He will present the concepts and process used in the creation of the first volume in the series, and share techniques to help English language learners follow their imaginations and express themselves creatively in pictures and words.
