Mainstream Teachers Become Expert Language Teachers of Bilingual Learners: Successes and Challenges

Session Abstract
Presenters will overview and demonstrate strategies used by mainstream elementary teachers during writing instruction. Their classrooms include beginners to advanced bilingual learners as well as native speakers of English. Guided by a genre-based pedagogy informed by systemic functional linguistics, these teachers have been successful in advancing their students' English proficiency.
