To Be or Not To Be: Shakespeare for ELL
Session Abstract
In this session, facilitators will discuss how to teach and implement a Shakespeare unit designed for all levels of ELL. Lower level proficiencies were taught Othello and put on a live-action play, while high level proficiencies covered Macbeth and created a movie. The objective was for students to analyze a character and how he/she changed over the course of the play, use stage direction vocabulary, perform the play itself with appropriate tone and mood, and speak clearly and concisely. Using the UBD design, facilitators will cover the unit starting with the final outcome and explaining how we got the students to meet the objectives/standards.
