Classroom Strategies that Support Oral Language Development
Session Abstract
Young children’s speaking and listening skills have been determined to provide a strong foundation for later reading and writing success as well as a basis for all future learning. Teachers can make a substantial difference in the language development by providing language-rich conversations and activities in their classrooms. This session provides an opportunity for participants to discuss the role of oral language for young children and share strategies easily implemented at the earliest grades. Topics will also include considerations for a training module for paraprofessionals and classroom aides working with young students.
