Abstract
Abstract
Increasingly, colleges and universities hire faculty with joint appointments, interdisciplinary teaching expectations, and non-traditional areas of study. It is often a challenge for individuals in these positions to plan their career steps strategically and to document their achievements in a way that makes sense to the often traditionally trained hiring, promotion, and tenure committees, as well as department chairs, program directors, deans, provosts, and presidents. This session will feature brief presentations by senior faculty/administrators who have navigated this process in environmental programs at institutions of various sizes, both public and private; mentored faculty in successfully planning and documenting academic careers; and served as external reviewers for candidates for advancement. The remainder of the time will be a working session with attendees who are in this process at any career stage.
