Why Faculty Buy-In is a Must for Prior Learning Assessment

Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 10:45 AM–12:15 PM CST
Breakout 4 - Roundtable
Session Type

Roundtable - Facilitated discussion hosted by presenter(s) in an open format.

Session Description

Adult learners come with a variety of backgrounds that could prove beneficial to their educational pursuit. In order to promote critical thinking and higher learning, it becomes a responsibility to allow students the opportunity for real life application of experience while earning a degree. Integrated learning is the perfect platform for which to build and utilize prior learning opportunities that go beyond CLEP and DSST testing. Prior learning assessment via portfolio writing should be an integral part of any degree plan for these non-traditional students. More importantly, however, will be faculty buy-in and acceptance of prior learning within the university setting.
