Developing Critical Thinking Skills through Effective Online Discussions: Focus on Nontraditional Students in Higher Education

Session Description
In higher education, most nontraditional students prefer online classes (Learninghouse, 2014). Maintaining meaningful class interaction and developing much needed critical thinking skills in online teaching can be challenging (Greg & Warren, 2009; Rovai, 2007). The discussion will focus on how to apply theory to stimulate critical thinking in online discussions (Hilton, 2013; Poll, Jeanne & Weller, 2014). Participants will learn how to use online discussions and assessment strategies for effective student learning and collaboration.
