Asynchronous Video Advisement as a Novel Approach to Support Online Learners

Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:30 AM–11:30 AM CST
Breakout 6 - Roundtable
Session Type

Roundtable - Facilitated discussion hosted by presenter(s) in an open format.

Session Description

To improve the channels and application of academic advisement, professionals must consider an asynchronous computer-mediated communication channel that allows for elevated engagement for students and clearer interpretation of messages. This roundtable examines the proposal that advisors use asynchronous academic advisement via emailed video format. Benefits of this format are increased comprehension by the receiver of the message and the emailed video embraces a similar format to the inclusive online learning environment. The expectation of such an asynchronous advising technique is that it provides a thorough, supportive academic counseling session as a real-time advising experience.
