Storytelling – Using personal narratives to create inclusive cultures

Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 10:00 AM–11:30 AM CDT
Coronado B (smaller room)
Workshop Description

Our brains are wired for stories...not facts. For decades, LGBT employees have used legal, return on investment, and survey facts to argue their cases for full inclusion in the workplace. Using this approach, LGBT employees have made significant advancements; yet, LGBT employees experience lower engagement in the workplace, higher rates of unemployment, and a perception that we have fewer opportunities to advance in our workplaces. We feel that to continue the momentum to achieving full inclusion, LGBT leaders and employees must begin to share their stories. Storytelling is a powerful vehicle to create emotion, have lasting impact, and energize change within the workplace. This workshop will give participants practical techniques and time to create, practice, and refine their personal, authentic narratives.
