The Supreme Court’s upcoming rulings on four cases challenging the constitutionality of state same-sex marriage bans are expected to extend the right to marry to same-sex couples nationwide. The rulings will have significant implications for employers by allowing uniformity in the benefits offered to employees’ same-sex and opposite-sex spouses. In addition, after years of work to advance marriage equality, the rulings will permit legal advocacy efforts to focus more intently on other aspects of LGBT diversity. This workshop will focus on increasing efforts to advance transgender equality, including workplace discrimination, access to and taxation of medical benefits, and challenges with gender recognition under federal and state laws.
